MIT Brought Back the SAT & ACT - What That Means

MIT recently brought back the SAT and ACT.

They say it helps them diversify their student body more than when admissions was test optional, because scores show whether students can actually do the work.

Families are asking me how they should approach standardized testing now, and I say, “Always take the test. And study hard for it.”

If you hit the average admitted score or higher, submit those scores.

Some colleges also consider your test scores for merit aid, so it’s good to have those numbers available.

Finally, if you’re Asian/white and wealthy, unfortunately, you’ll have to focus on the test and excel at it, epecially if you’re aiming for top schools.

Colleges want diversity and If you’re Asian-American, you’re “over-represented”. If you’re wealthy and white, they’ll consider you privileged.

In order to compete for spots at an elite school, you’ll have to prove you’re the best of the best.
